Travel Tips: August 17, 2021

Need some advice for exploring your destination? Here’s your daily dose of travel tips.

  1. Try to keep the currency you have exchanged for. If you ever go back to that destination, you would have to exchange or withdraw as much money.

  2. Bring a bag with a computer pocket in the bag. Whether or not you bring your laptop, you can put papers, folders, and basically anything you don't want to bend.

  3. You can join apps or pages on social media to meet fellow travelers. Just make sure to meet in a safe, public place.

  4. If you are visiting a less developed country or region, be sure to consult a passport doctor. They will let you know what medicines/vaccines are recommended and/or required.

  5. Learn to tell direction and general time using the sun and shadows. It is very easy and can keep you from getting too lost.

  6. If you go through customs over a land border, you have to ask for a stamp on your passport.

  7. Speaking of passports, make sure yours is up to date and doesn’t expire within six months of the end of your trip.

  8. REI has a program called garage sale. You can buy lightly used (if used at all) equipment for sometimes over half off.

  9. If you’re traveling during winter, wait until Black Friday or Cyber Monday to buy most of your gear/clothing.

  10. If you’re currently traveling or planning on traveling in the next year, bring reusable masks with filter inserts. You can use a single mask while replacing the filter inside every day or two. Just make sure you don't forget to wash the mask too.
